How do I stop screen going blank while using Fluxbox

Post  johnnyhoodoo on Fri Jan 28, 2011 7:28 am

Hi All.I recently went back to using fluxbox after a long time with xfce. After about 30 minutes of getting the keyboard set to UK and editing the menu,I sat back to watch a movie. After about 10-15 minutes I realized why I had stopped using fluxbox in the first place. While watching my movie I wasn't using mouse or keyboard and the screen goes blank.A movement of the mouse brings it back again.Very annoying.Anyone know how to prevent this screen blanking.

Screen Blanking In Fluxbox [FIXED]

Post  johnnyhoodoo on Sun Jan 30, 2011 1:02 pm

In case anyone else comes across this problem here is the fix

Disable Powersave

Do you recognize the problem while watching a movie that the screen goes blank? Congratulations, Xorg just detected that you were doing nothing Smile. If you don't need these movement exercises, you can disable this feature altogether. You'll just have to remember to manually turn off your monitor if you're not using it.

Just add the following line at the start of ~/.fluxbox/startup:
xset s off -dpms &

This is taken from the Arch Linux Wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fluxbox#Disable_Powersave
