Johnny, over here ! :o)
In one of your first posts, you wrote that you use Linux Mint too. This is a distro I've never tried but I'm curious. All (I think) I know is that it's like Ubuntu but with more programs. Could you please post your comments about this distro ?
Thanks,
Thanks,
Linux Mint
Well what can I say about Mint?I've installed it on my Dad's computer and also on two Dell mini 10 notebooks. On these machines everything worked including the wireless on the Dell's.The webcam on these netbooks also worked.
I believe Mint is "based on" Ubuntu and it appears polished and professional. There are 64 and 32 bit versions as well as different desktop editions.I used the xfce one to do the installs.Installation is simple and friendly. The only part that could be improved is the partitioner. This could stump a newcomer who may not know what size and types of partitions to use.The Mandriva partitioner I feel is easier for newcomers as it has an "auto" setting that gives a root, swap and home partition at the click of a button. The Mint disc runs as a live cd and has an "install mint" icon right on the desktop. After installation updates are available. If you have an Nvidia or Ati graphics card a friendly "proprietry drivers" pop up appears and offers to install what you need for your card to function properly.Multimedia codecs and applications are installed as is the flash-plugin for web browsers. It feels like a really good distro.Too easy for some who prefer to fiddle round and edit conf files or build applications from source but then I don't imagine that is whom it is aimed at.

OK, interesting and I thank you very much, Johnny.
We can see that Mint is more and more popular. It is in third place on DistroWatch.
