Opera Browser

Post  johnnyhoodoo on Sat May 28, 2011 4:14 pm

I run Opera as my preferred browser and I like to install new snapshots as they become available. There is a branch of Opera called opera-next which is the very latest. Now I tried altering the slackbuild to install opera-next but it always fails. After looking around I found a tool called op2slk.It is provided as a .tgz and works with 32 or 64 bit.Now instead of using the rpm as the slackbuild requires,it uses the tar.gz package.Once run it builds a .txz package which can then be installed.Very useful for anyone wanting to run the latest stable version of Opera side by side with the bleeding edge opera-next.Both can be installed. The op2slk application also comes with opupdate which checks for the latest updates. For me this is a great find.If anyone is interested here is the link.op2slk

Glad you found it useful

Thanks for the kind feedback.

By the way I added traditional style SlackBuild scripts as an alternative to op2slk (in addition to binary packages) for both Opera and Opera Next in my mini repository.

That way if people don't like the way I have done things with op2slk, they have more options.
