Slackware and Atheros AR5001 wireles chipset

Post  jawsh569 on Thu Jun 03, 2010 11:05 pm

Does anyone have any experience with Slackware and Atheros AR5001 wireless? I had Slackware v 13.0 running on my Compaq pressario cq60 laptop and wireless worked fine "out of box" then a week ago it quit working. Since then I have installed Slackware 13.1 and I'm still having issues with my wireless. Everything seems fine, except the fact that the wireless device seems to be down. and ifconfig wlan0 up won't bring it up. Then I started reading tons of forums on this issue and tried out rfkill.

Well it's been awhile since I have fired up my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ60) I finally got my wireless working. It is still all strange to me. At one time I had no issues using my wireless on Slackware or Zenwalk. It just worked. Then I went to use it one day and it quit working. I spent countless hours messing with it and searching for information to give up 3 times and let the laptop sit. Today I messed with rfkill more in depth. http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Documentation/rfkill . Without goin too far in depth it is a utility to force your wireless devices to work. I'l post a more in depth letter on this. I would hate for anyone else to have to deal with this issue. If anyone else is having these issues don't hesitate to send me a message and i'l explain more.

Slackware 13.37 similar issue.

Post  daz__ on Mon Feb 27, 2012 5:12 am

been running Slackware on this laptop for about 4 months now. about a week and a half ago it started to drop the wireless for no apparent reason. after a cold boot it works fine for a while and then it will drop the connection and I will be unable to scan the local network anymore. I am using Wicd network manager. also using the AR5001 Wireless Network

I am running rfkill at the moment with the event option to see if it will register a block. I will have to wait though as there is no pattern to the drops. If anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful.

Rfkill not helping

Post  daz__ on Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:18 am

I ran rfkill and unblocked all. Still no use. Anyone else got any ideas?

Could the wireless adapter be about to fail?

Is there anyway to test this?
